7 Steps to Write and Publish an eBook

Writing an eBook for the very first time can be overwhelming especially if you’re a new writer. But don't worry, anyone can write eBooks. New technology has made it easy for you to create digital products like eBooks one step at a time. Here's some free game on how I created my own.

This 7-step guide to create an eBook will also explain where to publish and market on:

1.) Choose a “Niche”

Firstly, what do you want to write about? I suggest you choose something you already have knowledge in or a topic that solves a general problem. You’ll have a lot more to say than telling basic fundamentals if you choose something you're interested in. It's alright to take your time thinking about this because your “niche” helps you reach the audience you are going to market. You will make sales from people who are interested in learning about what you write about. That’s what a “niche” is - your focused topic. Sidenote: Try to make it as specific as possible.

2.) Create an Outline

Once you have your niche you can sketch the table of contents, sections and subsections in a word document. Think of every detail you want to hit and every question you want answered. This helps organize the eBook and make the writing part easier. Feel free to use ChatGPT or another search engine website to find out what questions people are asking about your niche.

3.) Start Writing

It’s time to start writing. If writing isn’t your thing, there are helpful apps like Dragon Naturally Speaking that use speech recognition to transcribe your words into written text. It's simple as talking into a recording app and saying aloud what you want your readers to visually see. Youtubers have countless videos of what they used as well. Personally, after I wrote words into my subsections, I used Grammarly to fix any grammatical errors so my eBook will appear professional as possible.

4.) Use an eBook template

This where your creativity comes out. Now, if you haven't heard of Canva.com for business and personal use you’re missing out. Canva is the greatest design platform out here with numerous templates for anything content specific. You will have to create a FREE account then enter in the search bar, "eBook templates" and choose one that fits your aesthetic or get creative and make your own. Sidenote: You can sell your original eBook template for profit.

5.) Proofread

Once you have your beautiful template in front of you, fill your writing in from the Word Doc. Your eBook should look like it’s coming together and close to being ready for publishing. Do not skip the proofread step because as quickly you can make an eBook formatting is important to pay attention to. Is everything aligned? Are the fonts the same? Sizing?

Proofread as many times as you can as if you’re the customer reading the eBook.

6.) Publish

The fun part is deciding where to publish. If you have a personal website like I do, that is a great starting point because you have more say-so. If not, there are plenty of websites to publish your eBook on. My favorite is Amazon KDP. It allows you to reach a global audience through their kindle store and receive 70% royalties on your eBooks. All you need is an account and aware of your page measurements which is completely up to you.

7.) Market 4 Sales

Marketing on Instagram and Facebook are great platforms to get customers, but I recommend alternative platforms that give you an easier experience at reaching a loyal audience: Pinterest. I use Pinterest to market because it’s solely for image sharing meaning all I have to focus on are the “pins” I create and upload. After doing my research I found my audience is on Pinterest seeking information on blogging and digital products. The objective is the more pins you upload the more clicks and impressions you get. Whatever it takes to grow your monthly views. The bigger your monthly views are the better chance you have at making more sales.

Growing an audience will always work in your favor when trying to make sales for any product but if this is not what you're interested in doing, yet, I will mention there are eBook specific websites to upload your digital products to an open market like Amazon KDP, Blurb, BookBaby, and more.

I hope these steps inspire you to dive into eBook creation. If you’re ready to start making passive income, digital products like eBooks can help you start.
